It has been a dream of ours to photograph love in faraway lands, this classy DC engagement is not my first destination shoot but it is definitely a favorite thus far. Chamilka and Evan met in medical school, got engaged in Washington DC and then both moved to DC for their residency. They wanted their engagement photos to be extra special from where they first got engaged and of course I couldn’t resist the opportunity to hop on a plane or in the car to road trip and adventure to another city. My business partner and I got in early on a Friday morning and we spent the morning and afternoon location scouting for their engagement session for Saturday. I knew immediately that I wanted to photograph their incredible session at the Thomas Jefferson Memorial. The smooth clean white stone marble, structured cascading stairs and beautiful ornate curves of the columns and the memorial itself made for a beautiful balance of femininity, masculinity, fluidity and structure. There really wasn’t a bad spot to shoot and I could have been there all morning if they had let me. After we finished at the memorial we made our way over to Georgetown to get some more fun, flirty and relaxed shots of the two of them and their pretty little pups Bambi and Blue. It was a lot of fun exploring a new neighborhood taking in the quaintly colorful houses and early spring foliage. Chamilka and Evan will be married in Cleveland, OH come mid-summer and we can’t wait to meet their families and capture their celebration!
